Club Information

Badminton has a surprisingly long history given its relatively recent introduction onto the Olympic scene. Badminton's origins date back at least two thousand years to the game of battledore and shuttlecock played in ancient Greece, India and China.

Badminton took its name from Badminton House in Gloucestershire, home of the Duke of Beaufort.

Matches

A list of the Evesham League Matches is published on the Matches Page including contacts for all of the Evesham League teams.

The best shuttlecocks are made from the feathers from the left wing of a goose but most teams in the Evesham League play with plastic shuttles (which last longer than feather shuttles)

Rules and Regulations

To play competitive badminton you need explosiveness, lightening quick reflexes and rapid hand-eye coordination. The shuttlecock has been clocked in excess of 200 mph (NO this is not a misprint). That's faster than the fastest tennis serve, and occurs regularly during rallies at the top level. Add onto this the fact that in doubles games there are often 40 or 50 shots in 20 seconds!
